Parish Church of San Lorenzo

Audio file

This is the oldest of Salvaterra's 17 parishes. Dating back to 1580, it was built in the Renaissance style. However, its structure is typical of medieval Romanesque churches, and it is believed that it may have been the chapel of the old Salvaterra castle. Inside, the most notable feature is the carving of the Holy Christ of Victory, dated 1733, possibly commemorating the victory over the Portuguese during the reconquest of the town.
